Engine and Performance
The standard direct-injection SUBARU BOXER® engine in the 2023 Subaru Outback has been significantly updated. It now produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The optional turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine has also been updated and now produces 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to a CVT. All-wheel drive is standard on all models and helps it maintain traction on slippery surfaces. It can also be helpful when driving on unpaved roads or in deep snow.
The 2023 Subaru Outback has a ground clearance of 8.7 inches on most models, but the Wilderness comes with a 9.5-inch ground clearance. The X-MODE® off-road system is standard on all models and includes hill descent control, a crawl ratio of 20:1 and an off-road assist mode. The 2023 Subaru Outback has a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds and an available trailer hitch that lets you bring all the gear on your next adventure.
